“Family members are central to providing emotional support during the prison term. While incarcerated 81 percent of the respondents said that family was a source of support, while nearly 92 percent wanted their families to be involved in their lives. Another 70 percent expected to live with their families after their release from confinement.”

(Terry J. Collins, Director, Ohio Dept of Rehabilitation and Correction – Ohio Prisoners’ Reflections on Returning Home, by The Urban Institute)

Linking Families Together was established in 1971 as a matching program that paired a volunteer with a specific inmate in an Ohio prison. The program joined the Council in 2004 in an effort to continue the 20 year program of keeping Cincinnati’s families connected.

In addition to transportation, LFT offers a monthly support group for families and friends of prisoners who wish to share their stories, express their feelings and gain strength, insight and support during this difficult time in their life.

You Can Help!

Churches and organizations can support these trips by donating their vans and drivers to take families to a prison. Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Glendale supports the Lebanon/Warren trip and Bethel Baptist Church supports trips to Lancaster, Marysville and Orient. Others support through sponsorship of monthly bus rental or individual fares. If you or your church are interested in additional information regarding this program, call Rev. Linda Anderson, coordinator of M-M/W-W at 513-681-4129.
