Council of Christian Communions (CCC)
“Partnering for Youth: Call To Action”
April 2010
"The Council of Christian
Communions of Greater Cincinnati is composed of churches and other
religious bodies committed to working together..."
CCC MISSION
“The Council of Christian Communions is…
called to be the visible expression of Christian unity, an effective witness of the gospel, partners in Christ’s service, and builders of bridges, working with churches and other denominational bodies; to serve the community through organized ecumenical programs in education and justice, ministering to the youth and families.”
Vision
Act as a catalyst to connect the faith community to show God’s love to youth, in a relevant and meaningful way, resulting in improved outcomes for the youth.
Purpose
- Engage congregants to actively support youth through frequent positive interaction.
- Connect the faith community to Youth Serving Organizations (YSOs) resulting in improved outcomes for youth.
- Provide a “menu” of “packaged ministry opportunities” that are well-defined and geared to congregants’ interests, gifts and time availability.
Youth Serving Organizations (YSOs)
- YMCA – tutoring and mentoring
- Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CCC) – mentoring
- Hamilton County Juvenile Court Youth Center (2020) – tutoring and mentoring
- Cincinnati Public Schools, Learning Center – tutoring / 5th Quarter
Indicators of Success
- Facilitate a partnership between 16 Partner Churches and 4 YSOs.
- Add to the capacity of both the Partner Churches and YSOs to serve youth (managing and sustaining activity).
- Serve additional youth (YSO document number of youth served as a result of the partnership).
- Engage congregants in serving youth (churches documenting and/or communicating with YSO the number of congregants who are “off the pews” and into the community).
- Replicate with additional churches in 2011.
The CCC “Model”
- CCC will leverage the relationships we have cultivated with the faith community and the human service community to work in partnership with one another. CCC brokers the recruiting of volunteers from Partner Churches to serve in programs managed by YSOs.
- Congregations will partner with YSOs where there is a “fit” between ministry and service area. The YSO will provide the staff support to manage the project, provide training and support, and will work to sustain the activities.
- CCC will facilitate the development and cultivation of a relationship between a YSO and a congregation. The YSO provides the best practices approach, including volunteer training and support.
- With the facilitation of CCC, the relationship between leadership of Partner Churches and YSOs will be mutually defined, and captured in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which CCC will assist in developing.
- YSOs will become informed of programs offered by churches and make referrals to better serve our youth and their caretakers
